My Christmas Visitation

My Christmas Visitation            Most of you know my story about how I became Santa Claus. If you will allow me to retell the story, I will let you share in a special moment I had this past season.            My father, who was also my best friend growing up, loved Christmas. He would decorate our little house early in the season and would invite a professional photographer to take a photo of my brother and me in front of our fireplace. Our stockings that my mother had made for us would be “hung by the chimney with care” and a plastic molded light-up Santa Claus would ...

My Christmas Visitation

The Misadventures of “Captain Z.”            One of my closest and dearest friends is Dr. David Zaritsky. We worship together at the same church and have been friends for over twenty-five years. After God miraculously healed David from a horrible automobile accident resulting in a broken back a couple of decades ago that required David to give up his radiology practice, he has taken upon himself the role of praying for the healing of other people. His reputation in that spiritual endeavor has taken him all over the world where he specializes in medically document healings that have taken ...

Out of the Mouths of Babes I had completed my annual visit as Santa at the Christmas Carousel in Raleigh and had changed into my casual Santa clothes to have dinner at a local steak house with my family and friends. It had been a long day of delightful visits with children visiting the show, after which we had to dismantle our exhibit booth and load it into our “U-Haul Sleigh” and frankly I was exhausted and was looking forward to enjoying a relaxing meal.Across from our table was a family of five who seemed to be delighted that “Santa Claus was in the building!” Don’t take me wrong, I love being recognized as Santa no matter where I go, but I also want to ...

Do You Hear What I Hear

My Christmas Visitation

Many friends and family members know that for a number of years I have been hard of hearing. The hearing loss was gradual leading to the need of a hearing aid in my left ear first and then when I almost totally lost my hearing in my right ear, I got an aid for it too. However, even with these devices I had trouble hearing in most situations, especially when I was visiting with children. Of course it is important for me to understand what children are saying to me as Santa Claus, and there have been many embarrassing moments and some humorous when I misunderstood what they wanted me to bring them for "Christ"mas.Recently I have been consulting with a physician about having a cochlear implant ...

My Christmas Visitation

For over thirty years I have had the pleasure of meeting with one of my best friends for a time of prayer at his medical office each Thursday morning at 6:00 a.m. During each of the over 1500 meetings we have had, my friend takes a can of Maxwell House Coffee off the shelf and brews us a fresh cup of coffee. Over this cup of coffee we have shared the joys and sorrows of living life, always leaving with a time of shared prayers for each other and our families.Over the entire time of our friendship, my friend has embraced and encouraged my role as Santa Claus, offering his weekly encouragement for my ministry. He is also aware of the unique relationship I have developed with my photographer ...
